Alternative Treatment

Mesothelioma, like all cancer, is unaffected by crystals, auras, intercessory prayer , magnets, color therapy, energy, vibrations, healing hands, acupuncture, homeopathics, herbal remedies, and other alternative treatment. Alternative treatment can be extremely dangerous if used as a substitute for the care of a medical doctor. Some peddlers of the proverbial snake oil may make outlandish claims as to the efficacy of their product, profiting off the false hope that they callously sow in the hearts of cancer victims. Any suspicious claims of miraculously curative products may be illegal and should be reported to the Federal Trade Commission’s Consumer Response Center by dialing 1-877-FTC-HELP.

That having been said, alternative treatment can help some patients cope with their condition. While it is important to understand that alternative medicine is unable to affect the course of the actual disease or kill the cancerous cells in the body, some alternative treatments may affect how a patient reacts to and handles their condition, or may favorably impact how they perceive their condition, decreasing discomfort. Acupuncture, for example, is believed by some to be an effective way to suppress pain. Always consult a medical professional before trying alternative treatment, and never use it as a substitute for scientifically sound medicine.
